Thur., Mar. 28, 2019 – AMC Maine Chapter Potluck and Presentation – Upwards: Solo thru-paddling New England’s Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Morrell Meeting Room at the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME

Everyone is welcome at the potluck dinner, starting at 6 p.m. Please bring your own cup, plate, silverware and a dish to share. The slideshow presentation begins at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.


Sat., March 30, 2019  – Writing the Wilderness – with local authors Laurie Apgar Chandler, Thomas Jamrog, Kim Camery Millick, and Jake Morrel

When and where: 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Sq., Portland, ME

Presented by Maine Authors Publishing in honor of their 10th Anniversary, this event will feature four local wilderness writers discussing the process of taking their wilderness experiences through the steps of writing and publishing. At 1:30 p.m. there will be a brief presentation from each author followed by a Q&A. All authors will be available until 4:30 p.m. for questions and a book signing.


Fri., April 12, 2019 – Two Authors/One Adventurous Evening, with Thomas Jamrog, author of In the Path of Young Bulls: An Odyssey on America’s Continental Divide Trail  and Laurie Apgar Chandler, author of Upwards: The Story of the First Woman to Solo Thru-Paddle the Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Witherle Memorial Library, 41 School St., Castine, ME

Co-sponsored by Compass Rose Books and the Blue Hill Heritage Trust, this evening of adventure will feature presentations by Tom Jamrog, who has earned the Triple Crown of long-distance hiking, and Laurie Chandler, who solo thru-paddled the NFCT in the summer of 2015. Refreshments and a book signing will follow the slideshow.


Sat., Apr. 13, 2019 – Local Author Fair book signing and short presentation

When and where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Room at the Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., Rockland, ME

Meet a wide variety of Maine authors, enjoy their short presentations, then pick up signed copies of your favorites. This casual event will allow plenty of time to meet and visit with local writers. The time of my presentation will be announced.


Tues., Apr. 16, 2019 – SAGE Lecture Series: Solo thru-paddling New England’s Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Univ. of Southern Maine, Bedford St., Portland, ME (exact location to be announced later)

Each fall and spring, SAGE presents a series of Tuesday morning lectures that cover a wide array of topics of current interest. The speakers are recognized experts from the arts, government, non-profit, education, business, and civic communities in Maine.


Wed., Apr. 17, 2019 – South Coast Senior College Lecture: Solo thru-paddling New England’s Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 10 a.m. to noon at York County Community College, 112 College Dr., Wells, ME

Part of a program for continuing education for everyone 50+, both year-round and summer residents, in a casual learning environment. The 1 1/2 hour lecture will be followed by a book signing and opportunity to visit with the author.


Thur., Apr. 25, 2019 – Author talk – Upwards: A solo canoe journey on New England’s Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hope Library, 443 Camden Rd., Hope, ME

Forty-minute slideshow and stories from the author’s summer 2015 trip along the 740-mile NFCT, followed by a book signing.


Sat., May 4, 2019 – Author talk – Canoeing the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail 

When and where: 1 to 2 p.m. at the Whittemore Center Arena, UNH, 128 Main St., Durham, NH

One-hour seminar at the New England Paddlesports Show, sponsored by Kittery Trading Post. Stories and photos from the author’s summer 2015 solo NFCT thru-paddle. See event schedule for seminar location. This large show features tax-free shopping and a variety of informational and instructional seminars and pool demonstrations.


Sat., May 18, 2019 – Book signing and opportunity to visit with the author 

When and where: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United Farmer’s Market of Maine, 18 Spring St., Belfast, ME

When and where: 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Universalist Church, Allen Ve., Portland Charles M. Bailey Public Library, 39 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, ME

Author talk and Q&A, with stories and photos about Laurie’s 53-day journey at age 53 and the book that followed. Laurie will sign copies of Upwards after her talk.


Wed., Oct. 2, 2019 – Maine Outdoor Adventure ClubUpwards: Solo thru-paddling New England’s Northern Forest Canoe Trail

When and where: 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church, 524 Allen Ave., Portland, ME

The evening will begin with a social at 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting at 7 p.m., then the author’s 45-minute presentation with Q&A and a book signing following.
